DIABLOS LOSE THIRD STRAIGHT ONE RUN DECISION TO LAREDO

LAREDO, TX- The script is becoming all too familiar for the Diablos, who lost their third consecutive one-run game to the Laredo Lemurs on Sunday night, this time falling by a final of 7-6 at brand new Uni-Trade Stadium in Laredo.

As they did on Saturday, El Paso fell behind 5-0 before scratching across their first run. Laredo strung together six hits in the bottom of the second, with the biggest blow coming when John Allen doubled in two runs to make it a four-run frame for the home squad.

The Lemurs would add one more run the next inning on Anthony Scelfo's opposite field home run. The Diablos then began to fight back, beginning their rally in the fourth inning, just as they had on Saturday. Patrick Arlis singled to knock in Nelson Teilon for El Paso's first run, and Javier Brito cut the lead to three when he scored from third on a passed ball.

Bryan Frichter made it 5-3 in the fifth with an RBI single to score Kory Drew. Then, with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Brian Joynt mashed his first home run of the season over the left field wall, a two-run shot that tied the score at 5.

Once again, however, the Diablos could not sustain the momentum. Starter Colin Allen (0-2) began the bottom half of the sixth by hititng Brian Peterson with a pitch, then gave up a single to number nine hitter Jeff Vincent. After Allen was lifted for reliever Kyle Cremers, leadoff man Jimmy Mojica laid down a bunt that Cremers fielded and threw wide to third, sending the ball into left field and scoring Peterson to give the Lemurs a 6-5 advantage.

Laredo would add one more run before the top of the ninth, when El Paso staged one final rally against Lemurs closer Jon Hunton. Jonathan Cisneros doubled into the right-center field gap to score Kory Drew and bring the Diablos to within one run. With one out, Frichter grounded out and Nelson Teilon's line drive to center field was caught by Vincent to end the game and secure the series sweep for the Lemurs, who move to 8-8 on the year. Robert Romero (1-0) earned the win in relief for Laredo.

The loss drops El Paso to 3-13 heading into a three-game set in Amarillo against the division rival Sox. Osvaldo Rodriguez is scheduled to start the first game of the series, which will begin Monday at 6:05 p.m. (MST).
